Chief Brian Jarvis
Town of Chester Police
Co-Chairperson
Brian Jarvis, who is currently serving as the Chief of Police for the Town of Chester, New York, originally became involved with the crime victims’ ceremony in 1995. He was asked, at that time, to be a speaker for the ceremony. Chief Jarvis has continued to volunteer each year at the crime victims’ ceremony and has been co-chairperson and emcee for the last 6 years, working very closely with the founders of the program, Patricia Bodnar and Dimitrios and Tammy Lambros.
Chief Jarvis has worked extensively, during his 29 year career in law enforcement, with victims of crime. He previously served as law enforcement liaison to the Rape Crisis-Spouse Abuse Center of Ocala, Florida and participated in a study with the National Institute of Health on the long-term effects of child sexual abuse. Chief Jarvis began his career with the Town of Newburgh Police Department before moving to the State of
Florida. Part of the duties he assumed after moving to Florida were as the supervisor of a major crimes investigative unit in the state of Florida and as such investigated hundreds of violent crimes, including several cases involving serial murderers.
Chief Jarvis has been with the Town of Chester Police Department since 1998. He also currently is a national law enforcement instructor, specializing in instruction on crimes against the elderly and the management of criminal investigations. He is also co-founder of the National Center for Public Safety Training.
Chief Jarvis received a special recognition award on November 14, 2007 at the 12th Annual Safe and Sober Award Recognition Luncheon hosted by NYS MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving).
Chief Jarvis' nominator, Patricia Bodnar, President of MADD Orange County, said that Chief Jarvis has been a partner with MADD since 1995. He brought MADD's death notification training for law enforcement to Orange County. He has co-chaired the Annual Crime Victims' Rights Week Ceremony for over ten years and he has partnered with MADD for their Tie One On for Safety event. These are just a few of the accomplishments that make him very worthy of this recognition.
